In 1974 due to the introduction of Greater Manchester as a new administrative county, SELNEC PTE was renamed Greater
Manchester Passenger Transport Executive with a trading name of Greater Manchester Transport (GMT).A new logo was introduced including the M emblem which is still in use today by
the PTE (now known as GMPTE). The SELNEC livery was kept until 1981 when a new livery of brown, orange and white was introduced. The first vehicle to be painted in this livery was GMT Atlantean 8414
and the last in the SELNEC style livery was 8416. When the original corporation services were renumbered, they were sorted into the following number categories:
Route / Service Numbers: 1-299: Manchester, Salford, North Western (Altrincham, Sale & Urmston) GMT Central area. 300-329: Stockport 330-355: Ashton & SHMD
358-389: North Western (Stockport) 390-399: North Western (Glossop) 400: Trans-Lancs Express 401-434: Oldham 435-467: Rochdale 468-499: Bury & Ramsbottom 500: Bolton-Airport summer express
501-550: Bolton 551-559: LUT/GMT (Leigh) 560-567: Bolton 568-570: LUT/GMT (Leigh) 571-582: Bolton 583-587: LUT/GMT (Leigh) 588-599: Leigh 600-638: Wigan 644-696: LUT (non-Leigh)
700-999: schools, works & hospital services The depots operated by GMT were: Altrincham, Atherton, Birchfields Road, Bolton, Bury, Frederick Road, Glossop, Hindley,
Hyde Road, Leigh, Northenden, Oldham, Princess Road, Queens Road, Rochdale, Stockport, Swindon, Tameside, Weaste and Wigan.
