Bolton Depot Closure and re-location to Weston Street

First Manchester's Bolton Garage has now closed. Its last full day of operation was Saturday 13th March 2004 with operations fully transferred to the new depot
at Weston Street from Sunday 14th March onwards. Bolton Garage, designed and built for Greater Manchester Transport, was opened
in March 1979 and has closed after only 25 years. Its construction and size makes it fairly unique, with a self-supporting roof and very few internal pillars. It
had 29 parking bays, two fuelling bays with two bus washes, a large workshop with painting bays, pit area and steam cleaning bay. It also had two floors of
offices which latterly contained the Training and Development Centre, a canteen, Allocators' Office and Muster Room and several other ground floor offices for
operations etc. The depot originally had a front car park on Crook Street and a back car park linked by a service road. The rear entrance to the depot, leading to
the back car park and workshop was from Lecturers Close whilst the entrances to the main depot entrance and front car park were off Crook Street. When the
former Hick Hargrevaes building was demolished and the new Sainsbury's Savacentre was constructed, the front car park, together with the GMT Social Club
which was located there, were removed and replaced by a roundabout and car parking spaces both for Bolton Depot and Sainsbury's. The roundabout replaced
Crook Street for depot access as well as access to the new Sainsbury's car park.
