Final Day  of Operation: The End of an Era

All of the  remaining Leyland Atlanteans in service with  First Manchester were withdrawn from service on 7th  January 2002, marking the end of an era that has  seen Atlanteans in regular service with Greater  Manchester Transport, its predecessors and  successors for over 30 years.

Of the  remaining seven Atlanteans serviceable at Bolton  Depot, 4 were in service on the last day:

Updated  9th January with new information:

4622 was  taken off the 506 service on Saturday (5/1/02)  and withdrawn.

4633:  didn't run in service
4645: 0745 34 to Manchester,  back private
4650: didn't run in service
4721: 519 service - finished  approx 1045
4740: 905 school service &  506 service
4746: didn't run in service
4763: 0754 37 Walkden to Bolton,  0835 553 Bolton to Leigh, 0936 39 to Manchester,  1056 39 to Leigh, back private

4763  was the last Atlantean to run in service and it is seen below in Leigh at the end of its  last journey:
